This course is designed to introduce students to the practice of transportation engineering as it is a specialty of civil engineering. Various aspects of the multi-modal transportation system will be examined including social, economic, political considerations as well practical issues such as planning and design of systems to meet future demand.
This course is also meant to prepare students for senior-level courses by providing the basics of Vertical and Horizontal Alignment, the use of physics, mathematics, statistics and probabilities to help understand design of Road, Rail, and Water facilities.
